In many current applications of database and information systems, problems for data management and data exploration occur. Examples from technical and scientific domains include molecular and systems biology, medical imaging, diagnostics and treatment, CAD databases for mechanical engineering, telecommunications and so forth. For all these applications, the complexity as well as the huge amount of objects are limiting factors that affect the efficiency of performing required data minining tasks. We face these challenges by developing new multidimensional access methods, algorithms for multi-step query processing as well as geometric and structural approximation techniques.
